Disaster Resilience Leadership: Platform for Expansion

BU/SDRI’s executive DRL training is focused on supporting the DRL Fellows as they are deeply rooted and working with communities across Somalia. The Fellows provide leadership for a variety of activities and initiatives some of which fall beyond their regular employment. DRL Fellows are leading the emergency response to the worst terror attack in the history of Somalia which killed over 350 people in October 2017. DRL Fellows founded “Gurmad Qaran – National Emergency Response for Mogadishu October 14 Attack” where they coordinate searching for the missing and dead and facilitate the coordination between the government and families. Some of the DRL fellows are revising their action plans to specifically focus on improving preparedness and response to such attacks and improving coordination between the government, volunteers and community members.
